Travel: The Robey Hotel, Chicago

Published

on

Most of the Clotheshorse team lives in Chicago — and when we heard Grupo Habita, one of our favorite hotel groups, was taking over a space in Wicker Park, a neighborhood devoid of hotels, we were elated to say the least. Situated at the intersection of Damen, Milwaukee and North Avenues, perhaps the coolest and most bustling intersection in Wicker Park, you’ll find The Robey inside the only Art Deco skyscraper in miles, formally the Northwest Tower.

Originally built in 1929, The Robey has merged Americana and modern sensibilities in its remodel by Belgian duo Nicolas Schuybroek Architects and Marc Merckx Interiors, to house 69 guest rooms, a cafe and lounge (Café Robey and the Robey Lounge), two cocktail bars (The Up & Up and Cabana Club), as well as a 6th floor pool.

We had a chance to stay at The Robey earlier this summer during Pitchfork Music Festival which made for a great home base in our favourite neighbourhood to eat and drink. In addition to the hotels varied amenities, we enjoyed the layout of our light-filled room on the 11th floor over looking Wicker Park and the addition of a marble cafe table instead of the traditional desk you’d likely find in most hotels.

Other notable features of the room included cozy yet cool denim robes, a locally stocked mini bar, 400-thread count sheets (with a Woolrich blanket), a fine selection of magazines, Le Labo Santal amenities, and in room dining by Café Robey.

We also enjoyed many meals at Café Robey throughout the weekend including brunch, dinner, and cocktails. The French style American bistro offered an edited yet varied assortment of options for brunch and lunch, from heathy salads to avocado toast to sinful (yet reasonably sized) fried chicken sandwich. For dinner the menu balances vegetable forward items with a number of meat and fish options that are reasonable price and portion.

We also had the chance to take in the more casual lounge space on the second floor, which was a great place to work pre-flight after checking out of our room. Our visit would not have felt complete without a poolside hang at the Cabana Club on the 6th floor and of course a sky high cocktail at the Up & Up 360 views of the neighbourhood. Stand out cocktails on the menu included the ‘Game, Set, Matcha’a frothy mix of Vodka, Yellow Chartreuse, Elderflower Liqueur, Lemon, Egg White, and Matcha, as well as the ‘Follow Suit’ made with Jamaican Rum, Lime, Aperol, Orgeat, Bitters.

We adored our weekend at The Robey for many reasons. The vibe, the rooms, the amenities, all luxe, yet understated. Chicago needed a hotel like this and we cannot wait to return for another stay in the coming months.

Here’s Why Ariana Grande Is Dating Pete Davidson

Published

Ariana Grande broke up with Mac Miller earlier this month for reasons. Don’t know what those are. Pete Davidson broke up with Larry David’s daughter last week. When asked if he would okay after the breakup, he replied, “yeah, probably.” That appears to be true.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson are seeing each other, PEOPLE confirms. A source tells PEOPLE that Grande and Davidson’s relationship “just started,” adding that “it’s very casual.” A second source also confirms the news, which was first reported by Bossip. Reps for Grande and Davidson did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

I Googled Larry David’s daughter and this seems like an upgrade for old Pete. She kinda looks like a Dollar Tree Krysten Ritter. I also learned that Ariana Grande definitely has a type.

Video: Somebody Threw A Drink At Tomi Lahren And Posted It On Twitter

Published

Even though Tomi Lahren is politically insane for ratings, she’s still a white lady, so she went to brunch in Minneapolis. Brave Resistance fighters, also at brunch, threw a drink at her.

Lahren, 25, explained that she was at brunch with her parents when a group of patrons she assumed to be around her age threw water at her and “chanted profanities.” She called the incident “embarrassing.” “I think that those that threw the water and were applauding and laughing about it wanted to get their 15 minutes of fame by making video of me. I think looking back, those are the people that are going to be embarrassed by their actions. I think their parents raised them better,” Lahren said.

Twitter is now being mean to Tomi Lahren and saying she deserved it or whatever. She should join MS-13 so they’ll be nicer to her.

People Used World Cup Trophies To Smuggle Drugs

Published

Excitement over the 2018 World Cup has struck just about every country in the world. However, it appears as if some in Argentina were a little too excited over the world’s most popular sport. That includes the so-called “Narcos de la Copa” organization, who didn’t do the best job hiding their finely crafted product.

Argentinian authorities reportedly seized 10 kilograms of cocaine from the “Narcos de la Copa” — along with 20 kg of marijuana — $15,000 in cash and 1800 doses of crack cocaine known as “Paco.” The fun part is that all of this was stuffed inside replica World Cup championship trophies.

Buenos Aires Security Minister Cristian Ritondo tweeted photos of the fake souvenirs that were used to smuggle the drugs while announcing the arrest of two women and four men who are believed to be the mules attempting to cross into Argentina.

“These merchants of death have endless ingenuity, but don’t be fooled. They shouldn’t be admired. On the contrary… they are now in jail,” said minister Ritondo, in a statement.

This marks the second time in a matter of days that fake World Cup souvenirs were used to hide drugs. On Tuesday, Colombian police seized 14 fake World Cup jerseys that were drenched in a substance that turns into cocaine when treated. The jerseys, which were laced with about five kilos of cocaine in total, were reported en route to Spain.
